What exactly does a contractor do?

A contractor is a builder. Anyone who takes a job for a fee over $500 dollars is required by law to be a contractor. Contractors can be licensed as general engineering contractors, general builders, or in more specialized trades, such as framing, well drilling, landscaping, or masonry. Contractors dig foundations, frame housing, install roofing, install plumbing and electrical systems, hang drywall, paint, and can perform many other jobs. Upon completion of the trade and law portions of the contractor's licensing course, and receipt of a California State Contractor's License, you may work in any and all trades you're licensed for.
